Memorable Young Adult Books

I have a huge bookshelf bookshelves filled with books in all genres. I love to read (thanks, Mom and Dad!) and some books stick around as keeper books. So I thought I’d start introducing some of the books on my keeper shelves.  In no particular order, they are:

Thirteen Reasons Why Jay AsherThirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This book is haunting to say the least. It’s the kind of book that’ll leave you with a lump in your throat and an emotional connection to Hannah Baker.

Pushing the Limits katie mcgarryPushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. The author beautifully portrays the young love and attraction between Echo and Noah. I loved how the characters grew and persevered through the tough situations in their lives.

vibes Amy Kathleen RyanVibes by Amy Kathleen Ryan.  I loved Kristi, the tough, unique and spunky heroine.  It’s a great peek into the mind of a high school character who’s not exactly normal. The writing is sharp and witty with many laugh out loud moments.

You should add “The Book Thief” and “I am the messenger” to your shelves! Marcus Zusak is amazing!
I read 13 reasons and felt bad for Hannah, but did not really enjoy the read (knowing that she committed suicide).

I have “The Book Thief”-that’s an amazing book but I never read “I am the messenger”. I’ll look for that one. I know. I don’t normally like books with suicide but I felt like her story was just so haunting. When I first read the reasons behind what drove her to do it, I didn’t realize it’s the kind of stuff that actually goes on in high schools today. So sad.

I’ve been reading the Secret Circle series – apparently I’m way behind the times with those. Thank you for the great recommendations – I look forward to adding more to my reading shelf.

I saw those and read the premise. They look great. There was a television show created with those, I think. The problem is that there are so many great books-going to the book store is my Kryptonite. I’m like ‘Buy ALL the books’ LOL.

Great picks, Sonya. I’ll have to check them out. I’ve given away most of my hard copy books, but in the YA category, I’ve kept my Sarah Dessen collection and still have MY LIFE NEXT DOOR by Huntley Fitzpatrick. I would hate to part with them, but I know I will someday when the right teenager comes along and I feel compelled to pass them on.

I have a lot of Sarah Dessen too. I LOVED ‘My Life Next Door’. Someone suggested ‘Meant to Be’ by Lauren Morrill and that was great. Really cute and funny. I also finished ‘Inside Out’ by Maria V. Snyder and that one has that edge of the seat kind of writing. I finished both of those quickly.
