Author Fern Michaels gave me some advice about writing back in 2010 and last week I asked her if I could share it on my blog. Β She said yes, so I want to share it with you all because it was a help to me.
“My personal motto has always been, if you persevere you will prevail.” ~Fern Michaels.
I’m a big fan of persevering because anyone can persevere. You don’t have to be the writer with the most talent, you don’t have to be the one with all your ducks in a row. All you have to be is the writer who didn’t quit.
SO TRUE! This has been my (unofficial) motto for years! And…it WORKS, π
I know it was a light bulb moment for me.
No matter what, keep writing. I’m living proof you can be traditionally published.
The Weird Girls series-brilliant! I know A Cursed Embrace is releasing next month-you must be so excited! Whoever does the covers for that series does a great job.
Thanks for sharing Sonya! Glad I stopped by π
Me too, Anna!
Sonya-
I totally agree. You can’t sell if you don’t write. I see so many people who finish a book and then think the work is done. They’ll twiddle their thumbs and try to sell it. I always say finish a book, take a day off, and then start the next. π
Given that you write the Bad Boys of Red Hook, I am really glad you jump right back in : – )
I do that too-try to get right into the next one.
Great advice. Thanks for sharing her wisdom,
You’re welcome, Ashlyn!
Such a simple but powerful piece of advice!
I know and when she shared it, I thought, I can do that! I can stick with it if nothing else.
That’s such good advice! Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome, Pamela. I followed you on Twitter ; – )
Needed to hear this right now. Thanks!
You’re welcome! Hope all is well with you ; – )
Amen to that. Too often, we just give up on what could have been.
I agree. Your Jan. 11th 2012 blog post was awesome and very wise. I’m going to share that with the ladies in my group.
Perseverance is the key, absolutely!
It’s what changed my entire outlook on writing!
Great post. I think her advice rings true
Definitely! Thanks for stopping by.
Very good advice – although the opposite is true as well. I’ve known that writing stories was what I wanted to do when I grew up since I was about four years old. I’ve attempted to write this or that novel several times in my life, and hit very large brick walls. Either the story simply wasn’t publishable, or I wasn’t ready to write it, or my life wasn’t stable enough to see it through. Now, however, as I finish edits on my first soon-to-be published novel, I realize that writing as a career was the destination, but I had to get through a good chunk of life first. Had I sat in a room and forced myself to write for the last 20 years, I would have missed out on a lot of living that I needed to do to get to where I am today. Persevere, but know when to step back and do something else for a while too.
I always knew I was supposed to be a writer. I attended college planning to be a school teacher but only because it was someone else’s suggestion for my life. But I kept writing on the side. Congratulations on your soon-to-be published novel!
